All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement that you will receive upon booking confirmation or when you collect your vehicle. This agreement outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance information, charges, and your obligations related to the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To rent a vehicle from Car Hire in Lancaster, drivers must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions may differ depending on the vehicle type, with extra fees applicable for those under 25. A valid full driving licence appropriate for the vehicle category is required, along with identification and proof of current address. Additionally, valid payment information and a security deposit must be provided, along with any other conditions outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payments
- Reservations can be made via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Lancaster office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment, along with a security deposit, is usually required upon vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT when applicable. We accept all major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection in Lancaster, you are required to conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and signed to document the vehicle's state. It is your responsibility to return the vehicle in the same condition as it was collected, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may result in additional charges. Please return the vehicle with the same fuel level as when you picked it up; refueling fees will apply if the fuel level is lower. You will be liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, unless further coverage is obtained. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, irrespective of insurance status.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Keep in mind that late cancellations or failure to show up may incur additional charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited vehicle uses:
- The vehicle must not be used for any unlawful activities. This includes racing, rallying, off-roading, or any dangerous maneuvers. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting the vehicle or allowing unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. Additionally, using the vehicle for purposes outside its intended design, exceeding passenger or weight limits, or operating outside agreed geographical boundaries without prior authorization is prohibited.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
8. Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Car Hire Lancaster will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the total amount you paid for rentals in the past 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability arising from negligence leading to death or personal injury, or for instances of fraud.
9. Local Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be resolved exclusively within the jurisdiction of English and Welsh courts.
10. Updates to Terms
These Terms may be updated at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon posting on our website. Continued use of our services indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
